A day out in Douglas
We were delighted to get to use the Garda Community Bus last week to help facilitate some outings for our pupils. Pupils from Elm & Willow classes spent a fantastic afternoon in Douglas. They visited the library and spent some time exploring their wonderful facilities including their ‘Magic Table’ (or Tovertafel in Dutch). This is a sensory-friendly device which projects interactive games onto a table, using both sound and images.
The games respond to touch, which help stimulate physical and cognitive activity as well as encourage social interactions. What a fantastic resource!
Next up, pupils visited Tesco and did a bit of shopping. They had their own money so needed to use budgeting and critical thinking skills to decide what they could afford to buy, decipher whether they would have any change and if so, how much. They even remembered to support St. Mary’s in Tesco’s Community Fund Blue Token drive after their purchases. Well done guys!
Pupils and staff had a great day out, learning and having fun! :)
