Bus-y Learning about Public Transport
One of our 6th year pupils has written a lovely blog post about their visit to Capwell Bus Station last week:
Our visit to Capwell Bus station
At 11:20 am we left the school on our school bus to attend a Bus Eireann talk on using their transport. On arrival we were greeted by Hellen, Amy and Robert and given high-vis jackets to make sure we were all seen and safe. They brought us into a meeting room for the talk.
We learned:
1. How much an average bus ride in the city costs (i.e.) €1.90.
2. All our students can apply for a travel pass, if they are on disability, which means they can travel for free.
3. How to behave appropriately at a bus stop and or station.
4. Where we can find a time table and see where the bus is on route on the TFI website/app.
5. How to use travel cards. We received a jam card and a priority seating card.
6. How to get on and off the bus safely.
7. The Travel Assistance Scheme will assist any customer who would like help in using Cork city buses.
We were driven from Capwell station to City Hall by Bus Eireann, to meet the rest of the school, who were at Cork pops and took the school bus back to school. Bus Eireann were fantastic and very accommodating. We all learned a lot and will feel a lot more confident the next time we take a bus. Thanks to all the fabulous, friendly staff at Bus Eireann.
