Green Schools 2023
Biodiversity
This year we are working towards our Green Flag on Biodiversity.
Biodiversity is all of the plant and animal species that are living.
It is important to make students aware that all plants and animals have a function in this world and that some of the things that humans do are not good for the plant and animal life.
So, let’s mind our planet and treat it with care we can all live together in this world we share .
Green Schools 2022
Green-Schools is Ireland's leading environmental management and award programme, working with primary and secondary schools across the country
St. Mary’s are focusing on the Travel Theme for 2022
As part of this theme, we want to help students be more aware of the good things about sustainable and active travel; and how we can improve our health and the health of the environment by reducing emissions created by vehicles.
We need to make students aware that even though cars are a great thing to have. They need to be more aware of the damage done by cars to the environment.
For a healthier world we need to reduce the amount of pollution in the world. We also need to reduce the number of cars by maybe walking more or using public transport more. Encourage students to make a change they will try
St Mary’s Travel Theme
As part of our travel Theme we made a Diy city in a box.
In our Sustainable city we have lots of Green Space and lots of Greenery
None of this space can be used by the car it’s all for walking and for cycling.
1. We have a yellow cycle track.
2. A white walking Path
3.People can move and travel, free from traffic .
4.We have a skyscraper with a Solar panel. This is our energy source on the roof.
5. All of our little homes and apartments have plenty of green Space
Students had good fun learning about Bike Safety with the Cycle Right Programme. The course will take place every Thursday for 4 weeks.
